CLAMPING ELEMENTS for pneumatic expanding equipment
In order to clamp (fixate) the roll on the winding shaft or chuck, clamping elements are required. They are subject to wear. Either normal production or sometimes emergency stops will ultimately result in worn-out clamping elements. Processes without cores (coreless winding) are often equipped with LEAF type shafts or chucks. In the event of various core widths, STRIPE type shafts are most common.

There are 3 major types of clamping elements : LUGS, LEAFS, STRIPES

LUGS

INTERNAL LUGS
- PRODUCT REFERENCE : LUG-001

The elements are inside the shaft or chuck and transfer the hose force to the outside clamping element. The internal lugs are most often mounted on the outer lugs by screws.Generally, internal lugs are less subject to wear as the external lugs since they are not responsible for the torque transfer onto the core. The main advantage of systems with internal lugs is that it is made easy to replace the outside lugs, as there is no need to disassemble the winding shaft. In most cases, the external lugs are mounted onto the internal lugs by screws. Please note that not every system is equipped with internal lugs.

EXTERNAL LUGS
External lugs are in direct contact with the core material as they are responsible for the torque transfer onto the core. Therefore external lugs will always be subject to wear. Lugs for systems without internal lugs are most commonly T shaped upside down. The ‘flat’ surface is in contact with the air hose while the other side is outside the shaft body to hold the core.  Lugs used on systems with internal lugs are shaped to fit on the internal lugs. Depending on core-material and required grip, this external lugs can be made out of various materials such as aluminium, polyurethane, rubber, steel or special materials.

LEAFS
External leafs are responsible for torque transfer onto core or winding material. This leafs are available in various materials (most commonly out of aluminum) and with various surface treatments or coatings. Outer leafs are screwed onto inner leafs or lugs.

STRIPES
Clamping stripes are wide lugs, used in combination with ‘multibladder’ shaft systems. In general, these stripes will cover the full shaft body length and can be replaced separately. In case the stripes are worn out, they can be replaced together with the bladder responsible for the expansion of the corresponding stripe. For durable repair, the best is to replace the bladder, the protection tape, she trip and the layer between bladder and strip. For some systems these parts can be delivered as preassembled cartridge.

In case of inquiries, always refer to your type (brand name) of shaft and the length of the stripes. We will be able to find the requested parts soon. You can also take a look at the bladder section here: [hoses/bladder]
